Light Yagami is the main protagonist of the manga series and anime Death Note, created by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata. He is portrayed as a brilliant but bored genius
who finds the Death Note, a supernatural notebook that allows the user to kill anyone by knowing their name and face, after it is dropped by the Shinigami Ryuk.
Frustrated by the status quo and unfairness of the world, Light uses the Death Note to kill those whom he deems morally unworthy of life, masterminding a worldwide
massacre as the vigilante Kira. Over the course of his efforts to create a world free of crime, wherein he would rule as a godlike figure, Light is pursued
by law enforcement groups such as the NPA and a world-renowned detective named L.
Why Light Yagami would be a "good" ruler
Light is actually a villain in his own story, because he is a mass serial killer who has a narcissistic sense of justice. However, his way of thinking is very radical
and logical, with little to no empathy. While empathy and emotion are extremely important traits to have as a ruler, I thought it would be interesting to see how Light
would react if he legally became emporer. Light believes that by eliminating the "bad" people in this world, we would only have "good" people left and a peaceful world.
This way of thinking is immature and tunel visioned. Neverthless, Light would be a firm and strong ruler because of his God like powers and strong beliefs. He has good intentions
for the world such as peace and justice, but wants to solve the issues through murder which is unfortunate.
Light's top campaign platform would be on national television because that is how he gave and recieved news in the anime. His campaign to be emporer would also involve the argument
that statistics don't lie. In the anime, after Light had been ruling as Kira for a few years, he had killed hundreds of thousands of people already. Japan's crime rate went
down by 70%, which is insane. The crime rate did decrease significantly and the majority of civilians were safe and happy with the situation. Therefore, I believe
Light would use this fact to his advanage when running his campaign.
