BTS, otherwise known as the Bangtan Boys
BTS (Korean: 방탄소년단; RR: Bangtan Sonyeondan; lit. Bulletproof Boy Scouts), also known as the Bangtan Boys, is a South Korean boy band formed in 2010. The band consists of Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook, who co-write or co-produce much of their material. Originally a hip hop group, they expanded their musical style to incorporate a wide range of genres, while their lyrics have focused on subjects including mental health, the troubles of school-age youth and coming of age, loss, the journey towards self-love, individualism, and the consequences of fame and recognition. Their discography and adjacent work has also referenced literature, philosophy and psychology, and includes an alternate universe storyline.
I first came across BTS when I was in elementary school. Back then, my mother introduced me to KPOP(Korean Pop), which has become increasingly popular in western media. I saw their debut music video, "Dope" and fell in love at first sight. To me, seeing a group of people both sing and dance extremely well was incredibly impressive. I myself enjoy singing and dancing, and saw the group as role models to my passion. I have grown up watching their videos, listening to their music, and following their personal lives on social media. BTS has been my comfort group and musicians for as long as I remember. They have given me hope and laughter whene I've felt sad or upset in my personal life. I think everyone has an idol or someone that they look up to in their lives, whether that be for entertainment or educational purposes. For me, BTS was that someone and I'm still an avid fan.
