Conversations Assignment 2

Conversations with Robots: Voice, Smart Agents, and the Case for Structured Content

Q1: What is the difference between structured content and semantic HTML?
A: The main difference between structures and semantic HTML, is that structured html showcases the relation of content to other content in the webpage.

Q2: How do they work together?
A: These two styles of html work together because they depend on one another for easier user experience. For instance, the semantic html is used for showing the relations of each code with one another. But structured html is used to better organize the code for easier viewing and underdstanding. Together, they help create better communication for the reser, and ensure that the information is accessible, accurate, and usable.

Q3: Why is it important to have structured content and semantic HTML in your web pages?
A: It's important to have both structured and semantic HTML in our webpages because it ensures that the web pages are easily readable, organized, and understandable for the user. Not only that, but since technilogy and Ai are continuously evolving, we need to as well. Combining both structured and semantic content will allow the machine to better read the code and provide accurate information.

Required Readings

Q1: Denise Jacobs argues that we all have a troll-like inner critic. Of the methods she identifies banish this troll, which would be most successful for you? Why?
A: Personally, I believe the method of self compassion would be most successful because I don't do it enough. I think empathizing with myself like I do with others would be really helpful in dealing with negative and inner critiques. Although refraining from thinking negative thoughts and developing mindfulness are important, self compassion would be most beneficial for most people because many of us aren't kind to ourselves. And we should be.

Q2: In David McRaney's article, what is "hyperbolic discounting"? List one method McRaney identifies to counteract hyperbolic discounting. Which would work best for you?
A: For me, the commitment device/tools has been the most successful for me in my life. Setting up a long term plan that I can't back out of forces me to work towards a goal the entire time to ensure I achieve it. For instance, this summer I gave myself a long term goal to lose at least 20 pounds. I shared my goals with my friends and family to keep myself accountable. This helped tremendously as it forced me to actually stay disciplined because I shared a public commitment. This summer I lost 36 pounds and got better results than I expected so I believe the commitment device method works best for me.
